Final Grades in D2L and Pounce

With the end of the semester in sight, the topic of final grade is on everyone’s mind. Here is a quick reference guide for most everything you want to know on regarding submitting final grades in D2L and Pounce.

Step 1: Release the Final Grades in D2L

In D2L, final grades are typically hidden from students. In order for them to see their final grade, you need to release it. Depending on whether you use a calculated or adjusted final, here is how you’d release that grade:

Note: If you are not sure what you chose, go to Grades > Settings > Calculation Options and look at the Grade Calculations.

Releasing Final Grades: Calculated Final Design

If your gradebook is designed to calculate the final grade (as opposed to adjusting it), the following video shows how you release the final grades.

Releasing Final Grades: Adjusted Final Design

If your gradebook is designed to adjust the final grade (as opposed to calculating it), the following video shows how you release the final grades.

Step 2: Submit the Final Grades in Pounce

Once you are done calculating the final grades and released them to students, you need to submit those grades in Pounce by the Registrar’s deadline (as noted at http://www.augusta.edu/registrar/). This two-part process is described below:

  1. Part 1: D2L
    1. Access D2L by browsing to lms.augusta.edu.
    2. Authenticate with your Augusta University username and password.
    3. Navigate to the Grades and open to the Enter Grades view.
      • Tip: If you see an open eye next to the students’ final grades, you know that the final grades have been released (i.e., are visible) to students. If you see a closed eye, go back to Step 1 and release your calculated or adjusted final grades first.
    4. Keep that window handy, as we’re now getting ready to bring up Pounce. You’ll want to see D2L and Pounce side by side.
  2. Part 2: Pounce
    1. Next, in a separate window, browse to pounce.augusta.edu.
    2. Authenticate with your Augusta University username and password.
    3. Go to Faculty and Advisors.
    4. Click on Final Grades.
    5. Select the semester.
    6. Select the course.
    7. Submit.
    8. With D2L and Pounce in parallel windows, begin entering the grades from D2L in Pounce (either enter manually or copy/paste).
      • Tip: If D2L sorts student names differently than Pounce, switch the D2L name sort by clicking either the Last Name header or the First Name header, to minimize chances of data transfer error.
    9. You’ll need to enter the letter grade and the the last day the students attended class.
      • Tip: The letter grade conversion is typically found in the course syllabus. For the Augusta University grading system policy, click here.
    10. For students that withdrew, you’ll also need to specify how many hours they attended.
    11. Submit.
